What is this thing called Christianity?
I overheard someone say he teaches about his mess ups because he is still being worked on, and when he says this I picture the broken-down, 1981 Chevette I once owned with a mechanic bent over the engine. Often, I look at places like mega churches and wonder if the people sitting in the rows with big grins, waving their hands in the air to the band really get it. I wonder if I really get it. Do we truly understand the commitment it takes to follow Christ when some can’t stay committed to their spouses?
Our pastor is changing our church through prayer. Well, really, God is changing our church through our pastor. How many people would follow Christ if our country became a third-world country with Sharia Law? Would they follow so willingly knowing belief in Christ meant death?
“That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea. And great crowds gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat down. And the whole crowd stood on the beach. And he told them many things in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, but when the sun rose they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away. Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears,[a] let him hear.”
